SO WHY CAN'T YOU QUIT SMOKING?
You have probably tried to quit smoking at least once, if not many times before. You may have even been succesful for a few months or even longer. You noticed that you felt better within days of quitting smoking. You felt healthier, your senses were stronger and you were proud of yourself for being strong and overcoming this dirty habit. You might have quit cold turkey, maybe you gradually cut down, or maybe you tried chewing nicotine gum or wearing a nicotine patch. You conquered smoking, you felt great, you knew you were doing what was best for you! Yet, now, you're smoking again.
So, why would quitting smoking with hyposis work any better? While you still need to have the motivation to quit smoking, hypnosis is a powerful tool that can greatly assist you in your goal to become a non-smoker because it gets to the heart of the physiological and psychological reasons for smoking.
Maybe smoking is just a habit you've engraved in your brain over all these years, or maybe it's some sort of belief you hold such as "smoking relaxes me". Whatever the reason(s), it is held in your subconscious, and keeps you from being successful at quitting smoking. This is why hypnosis can help. Briefly described, the state of hypnosis is one in which you feel very relaxed, yet also very aware. During this state, you're conscious mind takes a break from analyzing everything and allows you to focus more intently on what is at hand. Athletes call it "being in the zone" During this state, Your conscious mind and it's self defeating thoughts such as "no, I can't" or "I'm not strong enough", are easier to bypass and your subconscious mind is more free to accept positive, helpful suggestions. Contraty to what you may have seen in a movie or television show, or maybe read in a book, your subconscious mind will only accept the suggestions that agree with the values you hold. You can therefore not do anything you do not want to do, even quit smoking.

Quitting smoking with hypnosis is also more beneficial because in addition to helping to eliminate your smoking habit, it is also possible to replace that habit with new, healthy ones. Simply removing your smoking habit is not enough. Many people turn to other things to replace the smoking habit. Food is a big one. How many people do you know who are afraid to quit smoking because they know so many people who quit smoking and then gained weight. With hypnosis you will receive suggestions to replace smoking with things as simple and healthy as taking a deep breath, or drinking a sip of water, maybe eating a piece of fruit. We will talk to determine what you feel would work best for you.
STAY A NON-SMOKER!
Sometimes, a person will quit smoking for a long time, even years, only to start back up again. The desire for a cigarette usually correlates with something stressful happening in a person's life. Something more stressful than normal day to day annoyances. With your stop smoking program you will receive a reinforcement CD. This CD is yours to keep and can be used anytime in the future to help during these stressful times. Reinforcement sessions with me will also be offered at a discounted price.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The person who is interested in quitting smoking must be the one to make the appointment. Hypnosis will only work if the person really has a desire to quit, not because they are being asked to quit by someone else.
My procedure is to do a 1 and ½ hour session, including the free consultation, followed by a reinforcement session one week later. A reinforcement tape will be given to you after the first session. You will be instructed to listen to the tape for 30 days. The tape is not a session for smoking cessation and cannot be used to quit smoking on its own. It is simply a reinforcement of the suggestions given during the hypnosis session.
Subjects are also asked to fill out a form of their smoking habits and reasons for quitting or cutting down so that each session can be individualized to their needs. Click here for the quit smoking questionnaire.
I prefer to do smoking cessations in two sessions. This allows us to evaluate your progress and work on any reinforcing that needs to be done. If you are pressed for time, the session can be combined into one 2 hr session.
The cost for the quitting smoking program is $200 and includes either (2) one hour sessions or (1) 2 hour session and a reinforcement CD.
